History in Algeria

After 130 years of being under French rule, Algeria gained their independence in 1962. In 1963, they elected their first president, Ahmed Ben Bella. In December of 1976, Col Houari Boumedienne, who overthrew Bella in 1965, is elected as the new president. He introduced a different form of industrialism. In 1986, their ecomony starts to go down. The gas and oil prices raise as well as the unemployment rate. in 2001, many people were killed by severe flooding in the capital, Algiers.
